コロナ禍が過ぎつつあり、
社会のあちこちで
いろいろな変化が起きています。
従来の姿に戻ろうとする変化、
コロナ禍をきっかけに
従来とは異なる姿に
なろうとする変化。
そのどちらもが、
社会にとって必要な変化でしょう。
今回あつかうのは
2022年京都府立医科大学で
出題されたテーマ。
「公立図書館が、
オーディオブックや電子書籍などを
提供するオンラインサービスを
導入しつつある。そのサービスを
拡充すべきかどうか、
メリットとデメリットを1つずつ
挙げて英語で述べよ。」
という内容です。
語数は200語程度と指示があります。
構想は・・・
「デジタルサービスを拡大すべき」
の立場から考えました。
メリットは、
図書館に行けない事情が
ある人も利用しやすくなる。
図書館から持ち出すことが
できない本も容易に
読むことができる。
自宅が遠くて移動手段を
持たない人、
メンタル上の問題で
外に出るのが辛い人も
図書館のコンテンツを
利用できるようになる。
端末があれば様々な本を
読むことができ、
教育レベルの向上に
つながる。
デメリットは、
データを不正に複製され
ないような手段を講じる
必要がある。本を借りる通常の
手続きに比べると、
パスワードの設定や更新など、
オンラインサービスを受ける
ための準備が
面倒になるだろう。

メリットについて言及する
部分が多くなっています。
I think that Japanese public libraries should expand their online services. One of the advantages is that more people can use public libraries more easily. If the online services are more popular, we will be able to read valuable books online which are not allowed to take out of the libraries. Moreover, the expansion of the public library online services will enable those who have difficulty using the public libraries to use the great contents which the public libraries have. There are many different people who want to go to the public libraries but cannot easily go there. For example, those who live far away from the public libraries and have no convenient means of transportation. Those who have some problem on their mental health and feel depressed in going out. These people can read a wide variety of difital contents by using their devices, which will lead to the improvement of their education. On the other hand, one of the disadvantages is that we need to take some steps to avoid making illegal copies. It will be more troublesome to decide a password and use online services than to borrow a book in a simple, conventional way.
